Help with Bifocal, the DBT app for iOS.
Answers to the questions that come up most often, and a real person at the other end when they do not cover it.
Common questions
How do I restore Bifocal Pro after reinstalling?
Purchases are tied to the Apple Account that bought them, not to the device, so sign in to the App Store with the same account and the upgrade should return. If Pro still looks locked, check your purchase history in the App Store and contact support with the date of purchase. Deleting and reinstalling the app does not cancel or refund a purchase.
Does Bifocal sync between my iPhone and iPad?
Yes, if you turn on iCloud sync. Entries are then stored in your own private iCloud database, so the same data appears on every device signed in to that Apple Account. Sync is optional; with it off, each device keeps its own local data.
How do I export a diary card for a therapy session?
Open the diary card you want to share and use its export action. The app builds a facsimile of the official DBT diary card sheet as a PDF and hands it to the iOS share sheet, so you can print it, save it to Files, or send it to your therapist. The export is generated on the device; nothing is uploaded.
How do I delete my data?
You can delete entries in the app, or delete the app to remove its local database. When you delete an app, iOS offers to delete its iCloud data as well. You can also remove the app’s iCloud data in Settings → [your name] → iCloud → Manage Account Storage. The developer holds no copy, so there is nothing to request from support.
Does Bifocal work without a connection?
Yes. Diary cards, Chain Analysis, skills and past entries all work offline, including on a plane or in a hospital with no signal. A connection is only needed for iCloud sync or an App Store purchase.
How much does Bifocal cost?
Free download, optional £3.99 lifetime upgrade. There is no subscription and no advertising. The App Store listing shows the current price in your country, and Apple handles payment and refunds.
Is there an Android or web version?
No. Bifocal is an iPhone and iPad app, built with SwiftUI and Core Data. There is no Android, Windows or web version, and no account to sign in to on another platform.
How do I report a bug or suggest a feature?
Use the contact form at henrylightfoot.co.uk and include the iPhone model, the iOS version, the Bifocal version from the App Store page, what you expected and what happened. Screenshots help. Do not send diary contents or anything you would not want in an email; describe the screen instead.
Can Bifocal replace therapy?
No. It is a self-management tool for the time between sessions and cannot diagnose, assess risk or adapt treatment. Keep working with a clinician, and if you are in immediate danger contact your local emergency number.
Something is hard to use with VoiceOver or large text. What should I do?
Tell me. Accessibility problems are treated as bugs, not feature requests. Include the screen, the setting you are using (VoiceOver, Dynamic Type, Switch Control, Reduce Motion) and what went wrong, and it will be fixed in a release where possible.
Still stuck? Contact the developer.
Bifocal is made by one person, Henry Lightfoot, so your message goes straight to the person who can fix it. Use the contact form on henrylightfoot.co.uk. I aim to reply within a few working days.
